Handcrafts

Over 40 crafts and their workshops from around the country are gathered by the museum. In the exhibition "The Old Worshops" there are 20 different crafts on display. They are mainly from the period 1840ties to around 1900.

 
The beginning of collecting

The founder of Maihaugen, Anders Sandvig, was committed early to take care of craftsmanship. From the 1920s the museum worked systematically collecting workshops tools and inventory. Workshops was beeb reerected in the open air museum, and in 1927, many workshops was gathered in a converted "skytterhus", a type of building in Maihaugen.

The exhibition as we know it today came into the main public building in 1959. The exhibition was renewed to the Olympics in 1994. There also the dentist office to Anders Sandvig is on display.

The painter

The painter had pigments in metal boxes and drawers;
white lead,  cinnabar red,  ochre, and ultramarine.
